Snapshots from Brugge: Capturing the Heart of a Magical City
In the past 10 days, I’ve visited Brugge twice, this beautiful city nestled in West Flanders, Belgium. Better known as Bruges to English and French speakers, it’s a gem among Western European cities that’s definitely worth a visit. Every time I go, I’m captivated by the city’s medieval charm and winding canals.
An Enchanting Return
I’ve visited Brugge many times over the years, and it never fails to amaze me. Its cobbled streets, colorful buildings, and intricate bridges transport you straight into a storybook world. I remember a few years ago when I experimented with long-exposure photography by the canals and got some truly breathtaking shots. However, on my recent trips, I only managed to capture a series of quick snapshots. And yet, even these fast clicks reveal Brugge’s magic.
Brugge’s Iconic Canals
The canals are an essential part of Brugge’s identity. You might think of them as the veins that bring the city to life. Nicknamed the “Venice of the North”, Brugge is crisscrossed by these waterways, offering incredible reflections of the medieval architecture that lines their banks. Walking along these canals and snapping photos is pure joy for any photographer.
Brugge’s Chocolate & Beer Heaven
When you’re done with photography for a while, what better way to unwind than with some Belgian chocolate or a refreshing local beer? Brugge boasts an array of chocolatiers who craft delicious treats, and beer lovers can explore traditional breweries offering flavors exclusive to the city. While you won’t find snapshots of these goodies in my collection, trust me – they’re worth the trip!
Brugge’s Fascinating Museums
The city is also home to a variety of quirky museums, from the Groeningemuseum to the Frietmuseum (yes, a museum dedicated entirely to fries!). Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just curious about local culture, there’s something here for everyone.

Plan Your Own Adventure
If you’re considering a visit to Brugge, do it! There’s so much more to see than what I’ve captured in these snapshots. Take your time, wander along the canals, indulge in chocolate and beer, and don’t forget to bring your camera. Brugge is a city that will leave you enchanted, no matter how many times you visit.
Whether you’re exploring for the first time or the tenth, this magical city will always have something new and fascinating to offer. I hope my snapshots inspire you to discover the wonder of Brugge for yourself.
